Paul Davies
South Island Half Ironman Champs 28/11/09
Result 3rd overall in time of 4:24.
This is my first race since training under Walter for the past 4 weeks and I went into it more confident than any other race I have competed in. My nutritional plan was sound and the confidence gained in the past 4 weeks of solid and structured training along with Walters regular catch ups has helped heaps.
In really cool conditions we started the swim which went by without any dramas, a fairly clean 2km coming out a minute or 2 behind what I was wanting, hoping onto the bike I was around 4mins down from the lead guys with 2 x 45km laps, it was hard work in the cold to start but I stayed patient keeping the heart rate down and I was confident I would catch the lead guys by the end of the ride which I did. Four of us startd the run together, for me it was trying to stay steady and hit near 4min k's. I was able to run quite strong and finish in 3rd just a few seconds back from second place.
Can't wait for the Wanaka half Ironman and another 7 weeks under Walters guidance.

Dwarne Farley, Coast-to-Coast 13/Feb/2007 The season has been a breakthrough for a lot of athletes, but one result just through is very special for one of those athletes. Dwarne Farley has been with me from the start of his goal. That goal five years ago was to finish in the top three at the Coast-to-Coast which he achieved in the 2007 race held in the weekend. Dwarne has worked extremely hard which has seen him rewarded with consistent top three finishes at the country's flagship events over this time. However, in multisport the Mount Everest is the South Island Coast to Coast and in his 1st attempt he finished 11th in 2004 and 6th in 2006. Right from the beginning of his build up for the 2007 race the demands on his time were immense. Dwarne runs a company that has up to 30 staff in peak periods and he has the demands of family as well, so training is limited to mornings and evenings and has always been this way from the start. Dwarne sums it up best himself by saying that provided you are willing to work hard and stick to your programme you will reach your full potential. |
